Tata Consumer Products Limited is among India’s premier food and beverage companies. It is part of the Indian multinational conglomerate, Tata Group. The head office of Tata Consumer Products is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The company is primarily known for manufacturing and marketing tea under its many brands such as Tata Tea, Tetley, Good Earth, etc. The story of Tata Consumer Products dates back to 1964 when Tata Group and Indian tea giant James Finlay came together to set up Tata Finlay Limited. Significant development took place at the company in 1983 when Tata bought James Finlay’s stake in the company and renamed it as Tata Tea. 1991 was the year when Tata Tea ventured into consumer branding and launched Tata Tea as a brand. The company expanded further in 2000 when it acquired Britain's Tetley Tea. Tata Tea acquired the US-based tea brand Good Earth in 2005. A year later, Tata Tea acquired the US-based gourmet coffee brand Eight O’Clock Coffee. In the same year, Tata Tea purchased a stake in South Africa-based Joekels Tea. In 2007, Tata Tea acquired Mouth Everest Mineral Water which owned the mineral water brand Himalayan Water. In the same year, Tata Tea acquired the Polish brands Vitax and Flosana in order to bolster its share in the specialty tea segment. 2010 was the year when the company rebranded and changed its name to Tata Global Beverages in order to better represent its growing portfolio. A year later, Tata Global Beverages and PepsiCo India formed a Joint Venture (JV) called NourishCo in order to market healthy beverages. Tata Global Beverages brought US based Starbucks to India after it formed a JV with Starbucks Corporation in 2012. 2015 was the year when Tata Global Beverages launched the Tata Sampann food brand. In 2020, Tata Global Beverages merged with Tata Chemicals and was rebranded as Tata Consumer Products Limited. In the same year, the company bought PepsiCo’s stake in Nourishco. In 2021, Tata Consumer Products acquired two firms namely Kottaram Agro Foods and Tata SmartFoodz Limited. The company ventured into the ready-to-eat segment with its brand Tata Q. As of March 2020, Tata Consumer Products had a workforce of 3,193 employees in India.
